Team Rogaine: The Road to Victory

Fall quarter, freshman year of college, my RA approached me and asked if I would want to be the Captain of the floor’s volleyball team. Having played a few years in high school, I was more than happy to undertake this task. However, I am the type of person who does not go into an athletic environment with any intention other than to win, perhaps this is a flaw, but hey I’m a competitive person. So, I gathered those around me who I believed could help us get our photograph on the ARC wall with the other champions. I assembled a group of individuals, few of whom had any prior experience playing the sport and threw them into games with high expectations. We grew together during this season not just as teammates but our friendships were cemented so deeply that all of those who I am living with this year were part of that team. Time progressed and soon we found ourselves in the championship match, against a team stacked with experienced players. However, we had developed something essential for victory, as cliché as it sounds, heart. We screamed, dressed obnoxiously and did all the things we could to throw the other team off and as a result, we walked away victorious. The main reason that I titled this blog Team Rogaine: A Road to Victory is my college career seems to be defined in association with these individuals and it only seems fitting to start this new year with the positive experiences I had in the past.
